WHAT IS FREEZE DRYING?
Freeze drying is the process of drying material while it is in a frozen state. As a result, the moisture is removed as a gas.
Freeze drying yields a superior quality product. When items are dried while frozen, their cells cannot collapse or shrink. This in turn allows us to create a more realistic, life-like result.
All freeze dried items are treated with preservatives prior to leaving this shop. It is important to know that freeze drying removes moisture, but not oils and fats. We use conventional taxidermy methods along with freeze drying for optimal results.
Care must be taken to prevent damage. Items should always be kept dry. Inspect and treat several times per year with any commercial insect spray or dust. A light dusting of Borax is also helpful to ward off any potential damage before it starts. Prevention is key!
